********** Greater St. Louis Walk4HearingApril 26, 2008 For more information and to participate visit the web site at http://www.walk4hearing.org. ********** Missouri’s State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) will be offering courses on Emergency Planning for Special Needs Populations.These courses are offered to agencies/organizations that provide supports for individuals with disabilities as well as self-advocates and family members who will work with their Community Emergency Response Teams. (NOTE: Special needs is a term currently used to describe a broad group of people that includes “individuals with physical, mental, sensory, cognitive, cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, age, citizenship status, or other circumstance that creates barriers to understanding or the ability to act/react as the general population would during all phases of emergency management.”) This 2.5 day course is intended to provide those with responsibilities for providing emergency planning or care of seniors, people with disabilities, and/or special needs groups with the skills and knowledge they will need to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency situations.
